In order to achieve the above roles, peer educators do the following:

  • Tell learners what they learned from experience
  • Find out what learners are doing
  • Help learners examine attitudes and feelings
  • Make learners question what they see and hear
  • Instill positive messages
  • Tell learners what they should do
  • Provide accurate information
  • Be role-models of good behavior
  • Ask good questions
  • Condemn bad behavior
  • Recognise distress
  • Build skills
